Scanning Electro-chemical Microscope
920D
The scanning electrochemical microscope (SECM) was introduced in 19891 as an instrument that could examine chemistry at high resolution near interfaces. By detecting reactions that occur at a small electrode (the tip) as it is scanned in close proximity to a surface, the SECM can be employed to obtain chemical reactivity images of surfaces and quantitative measurements of reaction rates.

Acoustic Measurement Systems
Even AuSIM's audio simulation is only as good as the model parameters within the simulation. For AuSIM, deriving optimal model parameters begins with studying the acoustic world around us. The AuSIM3Dtm display systems synthesize a virtual aural environment from parameters based on the physical world. But the same techniques can be applied to reverse the process and extract parameters from the physical world to use for later synthesis.

Acoustic Emission Sensors
Acoustic wave (acoustic emission) sensors are the ceramic piezoelectric transducers converting the mechanical elastic acoustic waves generated in the material (e.g. elastic waves occur when a material cracks, wears, deforms, or corrodes) to electrical signals. The electrical signals are then amplified and filtered by a preamplifier and then transmitted to a special acoustic emission acquisition instrument for further data processing and analysis.

Bulk Acoustic Wave Technology
BAW
Macom Technology Solutions Holdings Inc.
MACOM’s BAW product portfolio is ideal for high performance Industrial, Aerospace, Defense, and Communications applications that require critical frequency filtering. Our high-performance RF filters enable our customers manage signal integrity in the 1 to 6 GHz frequency range. Bulk Acoustic Wave Resonators consist of two metal electrodes above and below a layer of a piezoelectric material. The piezoelectric material converts an electrical signal to a mechanical signal and vice versa. The metal electrodes provide the connections to/from the piezo material. The frequency at which resonance occurs depends on the thickness of the combined metal-piezo-metal stack. Advances in thin-film piezoelectric fabrication have enabled BAW resonators to meet RF filtering challenges up to 6000 MHz using standard MEMS fabrication process. High-performance BAW resonators-based RF filters are made of piezoelectric material having high Q-factor (>3000) and high coupling coefficient. Currently, no competitive technology provides the same high performance for RF filter applications when compared to BAW resonator-based RF filter up to 6000 MHz for the same size and cost.

Scanning Kelvin Probe Microscope
VS-SKP
The Kelvin Probe experiment uses a nondestructive method to determine the relative work function difference between the probe and the sample. Work function describes the energy required to liberate an electron from the surface of a conductor; electrochemists often interpret this as the difference from an electrode’s Fermi Level, average energy of electrons, and that of vacuum.

Scanning Electrochemical Microscope
VS-SECM (DC And AC)
The SECM integrates a positioning system, a bipotentiostat, and an ultramicroelectrode probe or tip. The positioning system moves the probe close to the surface of the sample, within the local imaging zone. The bipotentiostat can polarize the probe only (feedback mode) or the sample and the probe independently (generator-collector mode), while measuring the resulting current(s). The probe is specially designed to have a specific tapered polish (per the RG ratio) and active radius below 100 microns. The positioning system scans the probe and charts position with measured electrochemical parameters, creating a data map of local current.

Precigrader: Acoustic MSR System
Precigrader is an acoustic on-line strength grading system. The system is installed in more than 150 mills. It is used to determine common commercial grades in North America, including 1650 and 2100. A spring-loaded impact mechanism strikes the lumber as it passes. The resulting vibration is captured by microphones to determine the appropriate MSR grade.

Building Acoustics
Measurements to evaluate and improve Building Acoustics are typically made to analyze and design noise control from room to room, or from outside to inside. Noise sources such as music systems, televisions, appliances, traffic, aircraft, and manufacturing are all around us. The field of Building Acoustics evaluates and designs the materials and methods to insulate and isolate us all from these sound sources when we are at work, rest, or enjoying leisure time. The resulting data is useful for evaluating compliance with building codes and for proposing countermeasures for areas of concern. These measurements often involve creating and measuring an artificial sound source, and then measuring the resulting noise in receiver locations.
