The ARM7 microcontroller gridARM™ was developed by Grid Connect® as a system on a chip solution (SoC) for the implementation of embedded applications with a focus on industrial communication. The Evaluation Board PEAK-gridARM is a Linux-based development platform for the gridARM™ microcontroller. It has connections for Gigabit Ethernet, high-speed CAN, USB 2.0, RS-232, SPI and I²C. The digital and analog inputs of the evaluation board can be manipulated with buttons and potentiometers. The states of the microcontroller, the supply and the message traffic are displayed via LEDs. A board support package for Linux enables access to the hardware resources of the PEAK-gridARM evaluation board.

Panasonic Automotive & Industrial Systems has launched this evaluation kit for its Grid-Eye infrared array sensor, which integrates a ”nanopower” Bluetooth Smart module and a microcontroller. The kit is intended for prototyping the Grid-EYE sensor which is a 64 pixel IR camera in a surface mount package measuring 11.6mm x 8mm x 4.3mm, which integrates the MEMS sensor, lens and I2C interface. The integrated Bluetooth module in the evaluation kit, the PAN1740, draws 4.9mA in transmit or receive operating modes, which means it can be powered by coin cell batteries. The IR sensor has 64 thermopile elements in an 8×8 grid format that detect absolute surface temperature without any contact.

The A2K absolute encoder is a non-contacting optical rotary position sensor which reports the shaft angle within a 360 deg. range. As opposed to incremental encoders, the A2K reports the absolute position rather than the change in position. When powered up, it does not require a home cycle, even if the shaft was rotated while the power was off. In multi-turn mode, it tracks the position in a 32-bit counter as long as the power supply is maintained. Internally, an infrared LED flashes through a circular bar code onto a linear array sensor. The microcontroller decodes the image into a unique position. All user programmable parameters such as resolution, origin, direction and mode are permanently stored in an internal EEPROM
