Raman Fiber Amplifier (RFA) is a newly designed fiber amplifier based on Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) effect. It is considered as the core technology of new generation DWDM fiber over-long communication. Compared with Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier, Raman amplifier has the advantage of low Noise Figure (NF), wider gain bandwidth, flexible gain spectral region and stable temperature. It is the only device that can operate in 1300~1600 nm.

Sensor for Filament Inspection

EVT presents the EyeFI - the sensor for the inspection of filaments. The sensor contains two cameras with an Aptina sensor and S-Mount lenses. The cameras are perpendicular to each other. It is therefore possible to inspect two sides of the filament, which means that the EyeFI can detect if the filament is out-of-roundness. Additionally the errors and defects can be detected. For example the occurring flaws are point-shaped or partly flaked, or point-shaped and transverse, or also looking like a longitudial rib, or only spots in different shapes. The defects can be detected with the EyeFI sensor. The EyeFI contains board cameras with sensors from Aptina, the IoCap and an evaluation processor. The housing is about 14x10x4 cm in size. The IoCap is the image-capture-IO-board, which is designed and developped by EVT.

Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier

EDFAs are based on the light amplification in erbium-doped fiber, which are optically pumped by means of 980 nm or 1480 nm light sources. In this way, the light of a larger wavelength within the C or L band applied to the input of the amplifier is amplified, thus widening the range of optical communication links. EDFAs typically operate in saturation and the average signal power determines the average gain. The dynamics of EDFA are unaffected by the sequence and dynamics of a digital signal or channel interaction in DWDM systems. As a result, multiple channels can be bundled within the total erbium spectral amplification bandwidth. However, the total average output power in both cases is determined by the saturation power of the specific EDFA.
