The Model 3565 uses hard conical points to contact the bolt at the center of the head and at the bottom. It is fully adjustable for different length bolts ranging from 25 mm (1 inch) in length to 150 mm (6 inches) standard. Extension beams are available for longer bolts. The standard maximum measuring range is 1.25 mm (0.05 inches). Generally, on longer bolts this extensometer will be self-supported without requiring any centering marks or punch marks on the bolt. For shorter bolts these marks may be required. If the conical pins are sharp, marks are often not needed even on the shortest bolts.The extensometer has a zero adjustment screw to adjust the length between the contact pins. This is used to set the output voltage to zero, which corresponds to the correct starting position for the test. It also includes a breakaway lower arm. In the event a bolt should fail, the breakaway arm snaps free, helping to prevent damage to the extensometer. This is easily re-installed. In the event that bolt failures are likely during a test, it is recommended the user attach a cord around the upper part of the beam and tie the other end to the test frame to prevent the extensometer from falling. The conical point contacts included with the extensometer are made from tungsten carbide.The Model 3565 extensometers are strain gaged devices, making them compatible with any electronics designed for strain gaged transducers. Most often they are connected to a test machine controller. The signal conditioning electronics for the extensometer is typically included with the test machine controller or may often be added. In this case the extensometer is shipped with the proper connector and wiring to plug directly into the electronics. For systems lacking the required electronics, Epsilon can provide a variety of solutions, allowing the extensometer output to be connected to data acquisition boards, chart recorders or other equipment.

ADLINK’s PCI-9812 and PCI-9810 are 4-CH, 10 or 12-bit, 20 MS/s simultaneous-sampling analog input cards. The high-speed analog input channels are single-ended, with hardware programmable input ranges of ±1 V, ±5 V and input impedances of 50 Ω, 1.25 k Ω and 15 M Ω. The onboard 32 k-sample A/D FIFO can buffer so data throughput is less than 100 Mbytes/s, the FIFO performs as the temporary A/D sample buffer, and as a rule of thumb, no data loss will occur. When four channels operate at 20 MS/s simultaneously, each sample generates two bytes, resulting in 160 Mbyes/s (4 channels * 20 M * 2 bytes) throughput, which exceeds the peak 132 Mbyte/s bandwidth of PCI bus. To avoid data loss, the 32 k-sample FIFO is the limitation of sample count. In addition to the onboard 40 MHz time base, users are able to supply the external time base in either sine wave or digital forms. The PCI-9810 and PCI-9812 also feature external digital trigger and programmable analog trigger, thus the conversion start point of multiple cards can be synchronized to external events. The trigger modes include software-trigger, pre-trigger, post-trigger, middle-trigger and delay trigger, further expands the capabilities of these high-speed devices. These Event Detectors monitor the electrical resistance of up to 128 simple continuity loops, each comprised of single or multiple specimens under test. Each test specimen is continuously monitored while a selectable DC sense current is passed through each channel test-loop; resistance changes exceeding the selected threshold are recorded as an event. Minimum Event Duration, Channel Current, and Threshold Voltage settings can all be independently configured. 105 and 106 Series instruments are electrically identical, with the difference simply that the 105 offers four, 32-channel board slots and the 106 offers only one. Thus the 128-105 is equivalent to four 32-106 Event Detectors.
