*Laser Pyroelectric Energy Sensors
Pyroelectric sensors for measuring repetitively pulsed energy at up to 25 kHz. These sensors use a pyroelectric crystal that generates an electric charge proportional to the heat absorbed. The response time of the pyroelectric sensor depends on the time it takes for the heat to enter the crystal and heat it up. For metallic type pyro detectors, this time is tens of μs and thus the metallic type can run at a high repetition rate. For the BF and BB type, the response time is milliseconds with a correspondingly lower repetition rate. Ophir pyroelectric detectors have unique and proprietary circuitry that allow them to measure long pulses as well as short pulses and work at a high duty cycle, i.e. where the pulse width is as much as 30% of the total cycle time.

For common measuring tasks the connectors are configured at the factory and the measuring device automatically recognizes the connected sensor. The programming always remains with the corresponding sensor, so that it can be connected to any input on the measuring instrument. Inaccuracies of a sensor can be corrected in the connector, thus turning simple sensors into precise transducers.

ECPR System (Electrically Calibrated Pyroelectric Radiometer)

Developed in conjunction with NIST, the Rs-5900 ECPR is a ±1% absolute accuracy radiometric transfer standard for the visible to near-IR (0.25-2.0µm), with the RsIR Option extending the ±1% accuracy to >20µm. The RsP-590 Pyroelectric Probe requires no cooling and maintains ±1% accuracy from 1 µW to 100 mW. The ECPR uses an auto-nulling, electrical substitution technique that allows the instrument to be referenced against NIST electrical standards, insuring maximum accuracy and precision. Unlike most electrically calibrated radiometers, there is a direct correlation between electrical and optical heating because the same material serves as both the optical absorber and electrical heating element.
