The MLX90640 SparkFun IR Array Breakout is equipped with a 32x24 array of thermopile sensors creating, in essence, a low resolution thermal imaging camera. Panasonic Automotive & Industrial Systems has launched this evaluation kit for its Grid-Eye infrared array sensor, which integrates a ”nanopower” Bluetooth Smart module and a microcontroller. The kit is intended for prototyping the Grid-EYE sensor which is a 64 pixel IR camera in a surface mount package measuring 11.6mm x 8mm x 4.3mm, which integrates the MEMS sensor, lens and I2C interface. The integrated Bluetooth module in the evaluation kit, the PAN1740, draws 4.9mA in transmit or receive operating modes, which means it can be powered by coin cell batteries. The IR sensor has 64 thermopile elements in an 8×8 grid format that detect absolute surface temperature without any contact.

Sinusoidal Target Arrays have been recognized as a superior test method for a variety of applications, from moiré contouring to reliable MTF Evaluation of materials, lenses, cameras, and electro-optical systems (Follow the hyperlink to learn about using Sinusoids for MTF eval). Sinusoidal Pattern Arrays are manufactured on two different materials for both reflective and transmissive applications. Because of the inherent limitations of reflective materials, the maximum spatial frequency of the reflective pattern arrays is limited to 20 cycles per mm, while the transmission film arrays are offered in various sizes up to 256 cycles per mm. In addition, the sinusoidal arrays are available in a Single Frequency Grating or with Multi-Frequency Gratings.
