VUVAS-10X
A new ultraviolet spectrophotometer system for optical metrology just arrived at NASA Goddard! The VUVAS-10X spectrophotometer works best in the 90 to 160 nanometer wavelength range, also known as deep or vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) region. It uses a windowless hydrogen plasma light source and differential pump section to reach many wavelengths beyond those of conventional deuterium lamps. The source also works with other gases, or gas mixtures, for atomic spectral line emission from about 30 nanometers (double ionized Helium gas) up to the Visible light range. The new spectrophotometer system, McPherson VUVAS-10X, uses a one-meter focal length high-resolution monochromator with the special light source, scintillated detector and Model 121 goniometric sample chamber. The system is ideal for optical transmission, absorbance and specular reflectance at incident angles up to 60 degrees. This McPherson spectrophotometer system will help develop, inspect and qualify optical materials and coatings used for very high altitude and extraterrestrial space flight missions.

The Keysight N7711A and N7714A tunable lasers are single-port and four-port sources, available with C-band or L-band wavelength coverage. The narrow linewidth and offset grid fine-tuning capability make them ideal sources for realistic loading of the latest transmission systems. All models can reach any wavelength point within their specified wavelength range just like all other Keysight tunable lasers. In this mode, code compatibility with existing test setups based on Keysight's range of full-size and compact tunable lasers is a great asset. In system loading applications, it may be preferable to grid-tune the lasers like system transmitters, simply by changing the channel index. The channel grid is adjustable to standard ITU-T grid spacing like 50 GHz, and to arbitrary grids. Likewise, the zero frequency (base channel) of the chosen grid is adjustable. PD Defect Location in High-Voltage Equipment Insulation by Acoustic Sensors To act on deteriorating insulation the source of PD must be known.The insulation defects produce partial discharges, which emits electrical impulses, radiation of electromagnetic waves as well as acoustic signals.The AR700 measures acoustic signals with multiple sensors spread over the transformer. Then the software determines the failure location using the time difference of all incoming signals. Finally, these coordinates are shown in a 3D model of the transformer. AR700 device is used for measuring of acoustic signals on the external surfaces of gas-insulated breakers and substations, power transformers and other tank high-voltage equipment. The acoustic signals are caused by partial discharges in the insulation, which is the sigh of the defects.The advantage of “AR700” device is the quick installation of the acoustic PD sensors on the external surface of high-voltage equipment tank. The sensors have magnetic holder that is why there is no need to de-energize the equipment for the sensors installation. “AR700” device has 4 syn-chronic channels for acoustic signal measurement. This gives the possibility not only to find the defects in the insulation, but also to locate them. The location function of the “AR700”device is unique for acoustic devices.
