The fuels used in boilers, such as coal, heavy oil and natural gas, contains S. during the combustion process, S and O₂ form SO₂, and a small amount of SO₂ is converted into SO₃ under catalysis of Fe₂O₃, V₂O₅ and other catalysts. Under normal circumstances, the volume of SO₃ in the boiler flue gas is 1×10-6～50×10-6, and the water vapor is about 10%. When the temperature of the flue gas is below 200°C, SO₃ and the water vapor are completely combined into H₂SO₄ vapor. A small amount of H₂SO4 vapor will significantly increases the acid dew point. When the surface temperature of the boiler heat exchange equipment is lower than the flue gas acid dew point, the H₂SO₄ vapor will condense on the surface to become sulfuric acid solution with a concentration of about 80%, which will adhere to the surface of the heat exchanger and cause acid corrosion. Typical equipment that is prone to corrosion includes air preheaters, induced draft fans and flue walls.

These COD gages mount on a water-cooled bracket, which is mounted on the furnace side cut-out or with optional load frame support brackets. The standard temperature version (to 1200℃) is supplied with high purity alumina rods. The high temperature option is furnished with alpha grade silicon carbide rods. The Model 3548COD extensometers are strain gaged devices, making them compatible with any electronics designed for strain gaged transducers. In this case the extensometer is shipped with the proper connector and wiring to plug directly into the electronics. For systems lacking the required electronics, Epsilon can provide a variety of solutions, allowing the extensometer output to be connected to data acquisition boards, chart recorders or other equipment.

The 500 series dynamometer has a larger big brother – the MD-500-SE XL! The 500-SE is an excellent 2WD performance dynamometer and the XL model expands on these traits by adding in a much wider 98-inch outer track and a HUGE mechanical flywheel to increase the mechanical inertia of the dyno to about 2,000-lbs. This additional inertia helps reduce the duty cycle burden on the eddy current PAU and even allows for pulls to be done in a pinch in inertia-only mode. The XL handles vehicles like diesels and Ford Raptors where the 500 is a bit too narrow for these types of applications. The MD-500 XL’s multiple upgrade paths allows for an AWD upgrade in the future and enables it to accept a second eddy current PAU for increased loading capability. We’ve seen this dyno handle almost 2,000-hp to the wheels on power sweeps so don’t be fooled by the 1,500-hp peak measurement specification. If your tires will hook you can measure as much power as you are laying to the rollers. The large K250 eddy current PAU has plenty of torque for testing and tuning anything from your local diesel pickup crowd and local LS guys to classic carb stuff and front wheel drive cars.
