This module controls the optical power precisely to maintain the desired output level set by the user by automatically correcting for power drift or fluctuation.This slot module provides high-performance power control features such as high attenuation range, accurate tolerance, stable spectral flatness and low insertion loss in the wavelength range of 1260 ~ 1600 nm. The built-in tunable filter of the module is precisely tuned in C-band and L-band optical communication window by using both electronic and optical controlling methods. As a high current (400mA) modulation technique, it shows a high power and high bit rate digital signal of > 155 Mbps with > 13 dBm peak power.

The EDFA slot module of FOTS system with built-in power booster EDFA module offers a special function that is able to change the optical signal amplification feature variously, which is followed by user’s driving embedded pump LD freely. The output power of eash pump LD can be controlled separately by the program that is set up by user. When an optimum optical signal amplification particularity is needed, it is made up so that it can be materialized by choosing the Default mode provided along with User mode. More stable application of EDFA is possible through the monitoring of the factors such as in/out signal power, gain, alarm status and pump LD enabled by the application of FPGA processor which makes high speed driving possible. It is also set up that user’s present-time monitoring and control through LCD monitor of system main frame or GUI display for remote control can be possible. Through optimization of amplifier gain, noise figure, and saturated output power, this EDFA module will expand test capabilities in systems, components or sub-assembly manufacturing.

A cost-effective FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) interrogation system that includes a tunable laser diode, 6 photodiodes, and several fiber-optic couplers has been developed with very simple coniguration. Especially, it is not necessary to compensate the accurate wavelength because the wavelength sweeping is precisely performed in terms of the response time of which external cavity material is 5 msec. Whenever any vibration or sound around its sensing fiber is detected, our DAS system will process the measured data in real-time and its pattern recognition software will recognize the types of the events, such as digging, pipeline leakage, fence breach, vehicle moving person walking. 1 X 4 Switch slot module of FOTS system carries out the switching function that enables a single channel input to go to any of 4 outputs or a selected particular channel of 4 inputs to go to a single channel output. And its MEMS type switch module is bidirectional and transparent to signal format. It is remarkable that high speed switching and various driving program such as timed, manual or sequential switching mode are available through the combination of high speed response time switch and high speed FPGA processor. On the basis of less than 1ms switching time and 10ms minimum switching, high speed sequential switching can be installed easily by defining switching order, interval time and duration. Current switching channel status can be checked through LED fronted with slot, and present driving condition of optical switch can also be monitored through GOI or LCD monitor.

The frame of FOTS system consists of the Main control part and the Slot mounting part. The Main control part is in charge of control and interface of the system and the Slot mounting part can hold up to maximum 8 slots, which are modularized according to each function and come out in five kinds. This integrated test system is designed to help manage the test and measurement related to optical communication and component. And the modular architecture of FOTS allows for customized configuration so that the slot of LD Driver, 2 channel VOA, 1 X 4 switch, WDM EDFA and C + L – Band ASE Source can be chosen according to user’s necessities. Main control part and each function module are run by effective and multi-functioned system control program in the base of high speed remote interface, GUI display and the discriminative high speed driving of module and system. This system can provide variety manufacturing and laboratory applications such as general quality test and reliability test of optical component and optical signal transmission test through efficient linkage with other system.
